Pirette McKamey writes at the intersection of public education and imagined worlds. Her work moves from high school classrooms in San Francisco to underground landscapes and mountain ranges, tracing how people learn, resist, and care for one another. About
Pirette McKamey is a writer and education consultant. Born and raised outside of Philadelphia, she has lived in the Bay Area for over forty years. She is the Community Coordinator for the LIGHT Awards, and a Bay Area Writing Project Consultant. Prior to this, she was a high school teacher and principal in the SFUSD for over thirty years.
She is currently at work on a novel set in caves and the mountains. She received a fellowship to the Writing by Writers Tomales Bay Workshop, and has attended the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, and Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and recently completed the Lighthouse Book Project.
